E' appena uscito un libro che tutti gli amanti della razza dovrebbero possedere. Ne consigliamo caldamente l'acquisto. A very interesting book has just come out in Italy. Unfortunately our foreign friends can't read it, because it is very very well done. Oggi ci ha lasciato il nostro caro papà. La lunga malattia che ha combattuto soffrendo per tutto quest'anno ha avuto il sopravvento proprio quando sembrava sconfitta. Era un importante imprenditore ma era soprattutto "un signore di campagna". Siamo cresciute con i suoi racconti di quand'era sfollato nelle colline piacentine. Abbiamo amato per primi i suoi grandi cani da caccia. Ci ha insegnato con il suo esempio quanto può essere semplicemente bello e rilassante rifugiarsi nei lavori dell'orto e dei campi dopo la lunga settimana di lavoro a Milano. Ci ha insegnato l'onestà, la dignità e il rispetto del prossimo. E un grande senso del dovere. Era un uomo "di pace". Anche negli ultimi giorni di dolore aiutava il nostro vecchio Vicky ad alzarsi tutte le volte che non ci riusciva. E mi telefonava in ufficio se piangeva. E ora Vicky va ancora a dormire sotto il suo letto. Quando era in clinica voleva tornare a casa "a sentire il Konny e la Vanilla abbaiare", perché diceva che quelli "erano i suoi rumori". E ora il Konny e la Vanilla vanno a vedere ogni sera la sua poltrona. Ci è sempre stato rispettosamente vicino e ci ha regalato contento e orgoglioso del nostro futuro "Casa Vanilla". Ora sappiamo che è felice nella sua campagna. Quanto avrà da fare dopo tutto quest'anno d'assenza! E poi là lo stava certo aspettando ormai da un po' di tempo il Tocco. Sicuramente andava come sempre su e giù dal viale in attesa di seguirlo nell'orto o nel frutteto, di rubargli i guanti da lavoro, di corrergli intorno e di stendersi poi stanco e appagato all'ombra dei suoi secchi e della sua carriola. E papà, che aveva tanto pianto quando lui era morto quest'estate e aveva voluto una pianta di bosso sulla sua tomba, sarà tanto felice di fischiargli e chiamarselo dietro.
Desideriamo ringraziare di cuore tutti gli amici che ci sono stati vicino in questo anno difficile e soprattutto in questi ultimi giorni. Ci hanno aiutato molto.
Today our dearest daddy left us. The long illness against which he has fighted for this whole year at last won when we all thought it was almost defeated. He was a great "man of work" but most of all he was "a man of country". We have grown with the stories of the period he lived in the country during the years of the war. We have first loved his great hunting dogs. He learnt us with his life how beautiful and peaceful it may be devoting to the garden after the long week of work in Milano. He learnt us honesty, dignity and respect towards the others. And a great sense of duty. He was a man "of peace". Even in the last painful days he helped our old Vicky to stay up everytime he didn't succeed. And he phoned me in the office if he cryied. And now Vicky still goes to sleep under his bed. When he was in the hospital he wanted to come back home "to hear Konny and Vanilla bark", because he said that those "were his noises". And now Konny and Vanilla control every evening his armchair. He has always been near us with respect and he has given us "Casa Vanilla" so happy and proud for our future. Now we know he is happy in his country. How much should he has to do after all this year of absence! And we are sure that Tocco was there waiting for him since August. Surely he was going up and down the street among the threes waiting to go after him in the vegetable garden or the orchard, to steel his working gloves, to run and run around him and finally to lay down tired and happy in his buckets and barrow shadows. And our father, who cried so much when Tocco died this Summer and wanted a box three on his grave, will be so happy to whistle for him.
We would like to thanks all the friends that have been near us in this so difficult year and especially in these last days. They have helped us so much.

Ringraziamo in particolare Hanne, nostra migliore amica, senza la quale il nostro lavoro sarebbe ancora molto indietro.
